Emma & Alex: An Italian-Inspired Dodmoor Wedding with a Sparkling Night

Updated: 1 day ago

How we met...

We met in Northampton back in 2009 when Alex asked Emma out. Emma got drunk, fell over and cut both knees, lost Alex’s coat, and yet Alex still wanted to go out with her – true love right there!

The Proposal...

In November 2021, Alex and Emma climbed up Table Mountain in Crickhowell, Wales, where Alex proposed over a cheese and pickle sandwich – the most romantic of all sandwiches!

Why we chose Dodmoor House for our special day...

We were looking for somewhere with a relaxed vibe, ideally a barn conversion, and as soon as we visited Dodmoor, we both immediately agreed it was the perfect venue for us!

The vision and theme for the day...

The main thing we wanted for the day was a relaxed feel. We had a loose Italian theme with Italian food, limoncello, and lemons as part of the table décor!

The Outfits!

Emma wore a beautiful fitted ivory dress with lace straps and bodice and a keyhole back from Stella York. Alex wore a smart navy three-piece suit with a sage green tie and pocket square to match the colour scheme.

Food...

Squisito catered for us, providing a three-course Italian meal served family style to fit with our relaxed theme. We started with antipasti, followed by beef short rib ragu and trofie alla Genovese, and finished with tiramisu. They also made us a beautiful tiered cheese cake instead of a traditional wedding cake!

Our favourite part of the day...

It’s hard to choose, as the whole day was just perfect, but if we had to pick, it would probably be the evening when everyone could let their hair down and party!

How Dodmoor House as a venue stood out to us...

The venue is stunning, but what sealed the deal was how well-organised they seemed as a wedding venue, which really put us at ease.

One plan or idea that really worked...

We wanted to do a sparkler arch and had heard from a friend that these can sometimes be a bit chaotic, but at Dodmoor, it was so well-organised and executed perfectly!

The entertainment...

We had a pianist playing during the ceremony and drinks reception, followed by an amazing DJ in the evening who kept the dancefloor full all night! We also set up a DIY photobooth that our guests loved.

Where we felt our budget was well spent...

Definitely the drinks package that Dodmoor offers. It turned out to be much easier and more affordable than if we had arranged it ourselves.

Personal touches that reflected us as a couple...

We both love Italian food, so that definitely reflected us, as did the overall relaxed vibe. We also displayed photos of us over the years around the venue.

Suppliers we used and would recommend:

  • We used Florry Florals for our flowers and table decor, which were stunning!

  • Michael Raggatt was our pianist; he is super-talented and really set the vibe we wanted.

  • Squisito catered for us, and everyone commented on how much they loved the food!

From Dodmoor House’s list of recommended suppliers:

  • We used Rob Lawes Entertainments as our DJ (fantastic),

  • Sophie Duffy for make-up and Stacey Granger for hair.

Both Sophie and Stacey are amazing and super-talented – everyone’s hair and makeup lasted all night!

Our tips to other couples:

Don’t stress! Enjoy every moment. Ultimately, everything will fall into place on the day, and no one will notice the small details you’re worried about other than you!

Thank you so much Emma and Alex for choosing Dodmoor House to be part of your beautiful journey together. Hosting your wedding was a true joy for us, and we feel so grateful to have witnessed the love and laughter shared between you and your guests on such a special day. From the Italian-inspired details to the unforgettable sparkler arch, every part of your celebration reflected your unique love story, and we are thrilled to have been part of it.

We hope the memories made at Dodmoor stay close to your hearts for years to come, just as they will in ours. Wishing you a lifetime of love, laughter, and joy-filled moments as bright as your wedding day.

Special thanks to Dan Watkiss  for these stunning photos!

With all our best wishes,

The Dodmoor House Team x
