Becky and Rich's Winter Wedding

Updated: Jan 6, 2020

How we met...

We had known each other when we were younger as I am the same age as Rich’s sister. Rich had been living in Australia for four years but came back to live in Kettering - we saw each other on a night out in 2012 and started dating from there.

The proposal...

Richard proposed in January 2017. Rich took me away to stay in a cottage in the middle of nowhere in Worcestershire… I was 7 months pregnant at the time, he proposed whilst we were out for a walk. He dragged me up hills and over stiles to find the perfect spot, I was complaining so didn’t think when he set the timer on his phone for a photo, as he walked back over to me he got down on one knee. I was completely surprised!

The outfits...

The dress was Catherine Dean, the suits were from Next and the bridesmaid dresses were from ASOS. The flower girls tutus were from a supplier on Etsy.

Our favourite part of the day...

There were so many brilliant moments of the day but I have to say that I absolutely loved it when we had everyone on the dance floor at the end of the night for one of our favourite songs (Don’t you worry child – Swedish House Mafia).

The plan/idea that we felt really worked on the day...

We really focused on the food and drink – full tummy = happy guests. We were so pleased with our food and drink on the day and all of our guests raved about it afterwards. We had the amazing Buswell Catering for our meal, and had The Jabberwocky toastie van for the evening. Beth’s Bakes made our delicious cake, and we used the Dodmoor drinks package which I would highly recommend.

Also, have a Pinterest board – I had so much inspiration for the day from scrolling through images on Pinterest.

Where we feel our budget was well spent...

As I said before, the food and drink was a really key part of the day. You can also save money by making your own decorations – my Dad made our personalised photobooth, and my Mum scavenged car boot sales and charity shops to find the glass vases we used to decorate the tables.

I also think that the flowers have a massive impact on the look of the day - I was so happy with how our flowers turned out (I wish I could walk around with my bouquet everyday)! We used Aphrodite Arrangements who helped make all of my ideas a reality.

Finally, if we could give a tip to other couples...

Don’t sweat the small stuff as you don’t have time to worry about these things on the day. I am so pleased that we booked an amazing photographer (David Swailes) and videographer (Amazing Days) as it means we can go back and savour the day, as it went by so quickly.

Special thanks to Becky and Rich for sharing their story, and to David Swailes Photography for the beautiful photos x
