Astrid and Jack's Autumn Wedding

Updated: Jan 6, 2020

How we met...

We met on a warm July evening in 2012, and that is the only bit I can make sound remotely romantic. After babysitting, I went and met some of my friends at our favourite drinking destination… the local Whetherspoons! I said hi to the girls before heading to the bar to get a drink. Upon my return to our booth a group of guys decided to join on our table – one of them being my future husband. Jack spent the evening trying to impress me with cringey one liners and of course I acted as if it wasn’t working, but really with his cheeky smile and strange sense of humour he’d won me over.

The proposal...

Jack had bought my ring a month or so before he proposed, not planning when exactly he was going to pop the question after hearing the horror stories of well-planned proposals being super stressful. We are a family of snow lovers (Jack, myself and our furbaby Rudy), so when Jack realised a snowy November weekend was forecast at his parents up North, he decided it would be the perfect opportunity.

Whilst out on our walk, I’d managed to step straight in the middle of a snow drift and sent myself rolling down the hill! Jack being the gentleman he can be when he is feeling soppy came running straight over and helped me up, before getting down on one knee and asking me to become his wife - I didn’t put my glove back on for the rest of our walk!

The dress was…

Made just for me! I’m incredibly fortunate to have a very talented cousin who made my dress. When Jack and I first began to plan our wedding, I was adamant not to ask Rebecca in case I turned into bridezilla! After going to a couple of bridal shops and trying on a few dresses I changed my mind – I felt that every dress I tried on was either too heavy, the material was too scratchy or it was way out of my price range. Luckily for me, when I did ask Bex she was more than happy to take on the challenge, and luckily for her I didn’t turn into bridezilla.

Our favourite part of the day...

It’s almost impossible to pinpoint just one moment of our wedding day to choose as our favourite! A couple of moments which we’d both mark as being ‘favourites’ would be; When Rudy our dog decided he’d join in with our wedding vows – both Jack and I had been so nervous about this specific part of our day and having bear there distracting us with his wooing made everyone laugh. Secondly, walking back down the aisle after becoming Mr and Mrs - having all the confetti thrown over us was so much fun. Finally, one of my favourite parts as a bride was listening to the speeches. My Dad, Jack and Jack’s best man Harley all delivered fantastic speeches with everyone in fits of laughter and some seriously soppy moments.

Where we feel our budget was really well spent...

Choosing Dodmoor House as the venue to host our big day! It was the only venue we viewed and immediately fell in love with it. Prior to the wedding we visited three times, and every time we got in the car and drove home we would gush about how amazing it is and how excited we were to be getting married there. All of our wedding guests commented on what a beautiful venue it is. The team are incredible, going above and beyond to ensure the planning of the wedding was as stress-free as possible and the day ran smoothly.

Finally, our tip to other couples would be...

Everyone gave me this piece of advice during the run up to our wedding, and it almost drove me insane but… the day really does fly by. Enjoy every moment of it and make sure you grab half an hour for just the two of you to sit back and enjoy it together!

A special thanks to Astrid and Jack for sharing their story, and to Rebecca Louise Photography for the photos x
